dumpster diving

as a dedicated dumpster diver myself i really enjoyed this article at apartment therapy.  i can only imagine what kind of goodies one could find with a truck and the whole city at your finger tips during trash time.

lazy...monday?

the house is semi clean and the kids are distracted outside so what am i doing? looking at recipes for pains au chocolat. with the growing interest in everything french this recipe keeps popping up over and over, sounding like my kind of breakfast. this recipe over at epicurious seems easy enough for a jumping off point. a few that i came across have you making your own dough which would be exquisite but maybe a little beyond my capabilities. a friend just showed me how to make bread and although it was simple to make i find myself feeling very intimidated.

how delicious does that look!

i think i know what's for breakfast tomorrow, maybe with the farm fresh eggs i'll be picking up in town later today. a little coffee in the french press. sounds like my own slice of heaven.

harney peak

a dream of mine since we moved to south dakota was to hike the harney peak trail. after several failed attempts to get a sitter so keith and i could do it solo it dawned on me that the kids would have to come if we ever wanted to do the hike. despite it being 6 miles and taking us nearly 7 hours to complete it was a gorgeous hike and the kids did PHENOMENAL!! i love my little hikers and i am happy we accomplished this as a family and not just a couple.

we made it!

snacks at the top. don't let his calm facade trick you, it was super cold and super windy at the top.

sexy pear

i think the title says it all. have you ever seen such a sexy little pear? mother nature has a wicked sense of humor.

living the kayaker's dream

after 5 years of dreaming we now officially own our own kayaks. nothing is more relaxing than the swoosh of my paddles as it pushes through the water. true love!

a blogger apology

between mourning the loss of a friend(to moving), the start of the summer, and finding a new friend i have been neglecting my blog, again. i can only hope this summer has been as good to you as it has been to me, maybe keeping you too busy to notice the lack of new posts.

between gardening with friends, hiking, and a far away adventure to utah i feel like i have barely had time to keep up. oh yeah and i turned 30!! did i mention another babe is on the way? we're due on christmas day with what i hope will be our little girl. fingers crossed for now; we find out for sure in august. as of right now i've already gone crazy and checked my chinese lunar calendar, pee'ed on baking soda, and looked up every wives tale i could to convince myself i am for sure carrying a girl this time.

stick with me, i'll have lots of new posts coming out. i know i have been a bad little blogger...again.

saying goodbye

the day has finally come to say goodbye to a dear friend. i've been blessed to have made such wonderful friends in my short time on earth. our paths may reach to the opposite ends of the earth but we will always be close in spirit.

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;        5

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,        10

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.        15

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.        20
