happy valentine's weekend and happy valentine's day!

we couldn't have asked for a better valentine's day weekend. temperatures soared in to the 50's so we spent the entire weekend at the dog park with fritz. we were knee deep in mud and even got to walk on parts of rapid creek that had frozen. we had a ton of fun but it was totally freaky to have to trust that the ice is thick enough to hold our weight. unfortunately, i had major camera malfunction and didn't capture any pictures from this weekend. it kept taking this weird pixilated neon versions, perfect if we lived on mars. oh well! i did get to just put the camera down and be in the moment with my family. maybe it was a godsend, the universe telling me just to enjoy the day.

now today is valentine's day, the official lovers holiday. looking forward to some sushi after the kids go to bed; if we don't wait they'll just eat it all! playing with my little loves waiting for my big love to get home from work. happy valentine's day to everyone out there, may you have lots of love in your life today.

we got an early start to the day and an early start outside. what a fantastic sun rise this morning, the sky was blush red and studded with clouds. i'm in love with winters in south dakota.

cold snap

negative temperatures have hit us yet again with blowing snow and poor visibility, home bound for now. sigh! this winter seems more brutal than last season's. i guess all we can do is press our faces against the window pane and wait for the snow to stop falling. we did hear good news on the radio this morning from the weather forecaster... temperatures might be soaring into the 40's by the end of the week. you could catch me out in shorts and a t-shirt if that's the case!

managed to get the taxes finished and filed. keith got word yesterday that the irs has accepted them so now it's just a waiting game. i have so many plans with what to do with the refund. a tent for our yellowstone trip this summer is priority number 1 because our little 4 person tent just isn't big enough anymore. been getting hooked onto low-fi or toy camera photography. i'm thinking one of the holga cameras is going to be making it's way to my house. you could call it christmas in february!

15 outside

after days of -40 weather with winds gusting up to 35 mph we were finally able to venture out for some fun. our extreme weather makes it difficult to safely satisfy the 15 outside pledge but we stayed active in the house with lots of hide and seek, yoga, and valentine's crafts. as soon as i can get some good shots i'll post pictures of all the goodies we made to decorate the house. for now, enjoy our 15 minutes outside on this beautiful february afternoon.
